Takoradi Commercial Sex Workers in Distress Due To COVID-19

Commercial sex workers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality (EKMA) of the Western Region have been been in distress due to the coronavirus pandemic that has hit the world, forcing some of them to call their customers at reduced prices.

According to them, the disease has been preventing their customers and potential customers from engaging their services for the fear of contracting it through body contact, however, the pandemic was not the only disease that put their health at risk.

When the Spice News visited their joints at the Axim Highway near Vienna City, Lagos Town, Columbia, and the Central Business District (CBD), the joints were not as busy as they used to be before the emergence of the disease.

One of the “Sisters” as they preferred to be called who spoke on anonymity said though she was afraid of the disease, she had to confront it as it was her source of income.

She recounted that she used to entertain ten customers a day, however, with the advent of the coronavirus only two customers were sometimes entertained in a week even though prices have been reduced.

Meanwhile, one of the frustrated “Sisters” lamented that life has become hard since she has been without a customer for the past week.

“I have not even slept with one customer, how am I going to pay for my rent and other bills? I am afraid of the COVID-19, but there are other diseases that kill. I pray that the disease is controlled as early as possible to reverse business to normalcy”, she opined.
