W/R: I use my personal phone; we don’t have official office contact for the Public- Rent Control Boss

The Western Regional head of the rent control department, Philip Skedo- Deh, has said that his department does not have official office contact through which the general public can channel their grievances due to the failure of the government to give clearance for additional personnel to be employed to man other departments of the Unit to make the office effective.

According him, the office currently has four personnel expected to address day to day challenges of the Sekondi Takorodi Metropolis and the region as whole including monitoring in the various communities to ensure that Landlords and tenants are complying   with the law.

He made this known on adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice Fm 91.9 when host, Kwame Offei asked him to share the official contact of his office to the general public after addressing some rental concerns facing the people in the Sekondi Takoradi and beyond.

“We don’t have an official office line but you can call me through my personal line for your concerns to be addressed and enquiries. People do call me but I might not be able to pick up when I am asleep. I wish we could have a customer service department but government has not given us financial clearance to employ”

He urged the general public to channel their grievance to the rent control office for a redress.

Rent control department is one of the departments of the Ministry of Works and housing. It was established in 1963 by an act of parliament, The Rent Control Act 1963, Act 220 an LI. 369/64. The department provides administrative and professional service to the public and works in collaboration with landlords and tenants to promote optimum peaceful coexistence through education, reconciliation and economic development in the country.

Rent control in Ghana helps to protect the public and prevent landlords from imposing exorbitant rent on tenants and the vulnerable.
