COVID-19: KUMASI'S COVID-19 CASE TO ACCELERATE – UK PHARMACIST AND EPIDEMIOLOGIST
UK based Pharmacist and Epidemiologist, Kwame Sarpong Asiedu, has said that, Kumasi’s COVID-19 case count will move up from its current count of 120 because, the transmission level is at 3, thus, 1 positive person is very likely to infect other 3 people and the 3 people in return, will infect 9 (3 each).
He made this statement on Orange Health Lounge on Orange 107.9, on 2nd May. He also stressed on the impact of the partial lockdown and how the ban on public gathering has had on Ghana’s COVID19 case count.
‘It took us 39 days to move from 2 cases to 1042, but it took us just 6 days to add 508 and move up to 1550 -on the 19th April 2020 when the President spoke to us, we were at 1042, but on the 26th, we moved to 1550 (I.e, 60 percent increase in case count by 6 days) making our Confirmed COVID-19 case rate rise from 1.5 percent to 1.8 percent,” he added.
However, Mr Asiedu also revealed that, Ghana should have locked down at the gestation period of its COVID-19 patients because people who had come into contact with some asymptomatic carriers and may have spread it unknowingly; and will take about 14 days during the partial lockdown to manifest positive cases.
