The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken action against Dr. Mrs. Shine Agatha Ofori, the headmistress of West Africa Senior High School (WASS), for allegedly collecting money from students without authorization.

In a press release issued in Accra on July 20, 2023, the GES announced that, the headmistress of WASS, Dr. Mrs. Ofori has been interdicted, and she is required to hand over the school’s administration to the Regional Director of Education until the Regional Disciplinary Committee makes a final decision on the case.

The GES emphasized that this is not the first time such action has been taken against the heads of second-cycle institutions in the country. Earlier in 2023, Mr. Kenneth Agbomadzi, the headmaster of Fijai Senior High School in Sekondi, was also interdicted for allegedly charging illegal fees.

However, he was reinstated in May 2023 after an investigative committee cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The GES warned in its statement that it strongly disapproves of unauthorized levies and takes any illegal collection of money seriously.

The management of the school, teachers, and parents have been directed to understand the seriousness of this issue.
