Government Admonished To Instill Discipline In Economic Management – Business Analyst

A Business Analyst, Courage Bouti has urged the government to instill some discipline in managing the economy instead of returning to the International Monetary Fund(IMF) program.

Mr Bouti believes that it is problematic as every government runs to IMF for a bailout, and calls for disciple in the nation’s financial management.

He said,” we should be able to as a people manage our affairs instead of turning to the Fund for support and added that leaders should blame themselves for any conditionality which would accompany the programme”.

The Analyst was of the view that the country has made a record of high debt rates as revenue collection is still on the low thus advising the government to exercise restraint in spending unnecessarily.

He admitted that the government’s excessive spending coupled with corruption and other wastage in the economy has brought about the public high debt.

Courage, however, suggested a better system of revenue collection which can rake in the needed revenue for development.

Ghanaians have since the announcement of the country’s return to the IMF called for the abolishment of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) as it has failed to bring in the needed revenue government expected.

Mr Bouti reacting to the response mentioned that,” it is too early to call for the cancellation of the policy but called for a proper system for revenue collection.”
