PURC To Announce Approved Water And Electricity Tariffs For Next Year

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC is in the process of computing the necessary figures to announce approved water and electricity tariffs for the period January 1 to March 31, 2023.

This is in line with the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Adjustment policy.

The review in tariffs was announced by the Director of Research and Corporate Affairs of the PURC, Dr. Eric Kofi Obutey on the sidelines of stakeholders meeting in Accra.

According to him, the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment policy (QTA) enables the Commission to reflect changes in the macroeconomic variables in the operations of utility service providers.

These variables, he mentioned are inflation rates, foreign exchange, and the cost of natural gas, electricity, and water supply.

Mr. Eric Kofi Obutey added that, the QTA also help in the minimisation of effect changes in market-driven variables and delays associated with passing on such effects to consumers and utility service providers within the tariff control period.

He, however, was unable to disclose whether the yet-to-be-announced tariff will be lower or higher than theĀ currentĀ one.
