‘Showdown simply means I am going to prove to you that I will beat you during the elections’ -Kennedy Agyapong

Ken Agyapong, has provided clarification regarding his showdown comments made during the party's super delegates conference.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has provided clarification regarding his comments made during the party’s super delegates conference, which were perceived by some as threatening President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a viral video from the conference, he used the term “showdown,” which led to accusations of intimidation.

Addressing the matter for the first time, Ken Agyapong explained that his use of the word “showdown” had been misunderstood. He clarified, “showdown simply means I am going to prove to you that I will beat you during the elections.”

“I mean, it is only the NPP that will call you to the disciplinary committee when you say showdown”, he added.

Mr. Agyapong questioned the fairness of his being summoned to the disciplinary committee over this issue, asking, “will the vice president also be invited to face the disciplinary committee when he jokingly said he will give [John Dramani] Mahama a showdown?”

Kennedy Agyapong’s comments elicited mixed reactions, with some individuals viewing them as disrespectful to the party’s leadership, while others have defended his right to free speech.

In response to the controversy surrounding his remarks, the NPP’s disciplinary committee extended an invitation to Mr. Agyapong to explain his statements.
