Ato Forson – Gyakye Quayson’s re-election shows Ghanaians cannot be bought

Forson

After the re-election of James Gyakye Quayson, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency, Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized that Ghanaians cannot be influenced by bribery.

Speaking in Parliament following Quayson’s swearing-in, Forson stated that the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) attempts to sway the constituents were unsuccessful.

Forson highlighted that the people of Assin North demonstrated their resistance to being influenced by cash, projects, and empty promises from the NPP. He emphasized that democracy prevailed as the constituents made the right decision to re-elect Gyakye Quayson.

Furthermore, Ato criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for making prejudicial comments about the legal case involving Gyakye Quayson during the NPP’s campaign in Assin North. The President had cautioned the constituents not to vote for Gyakye Quayson, referring to him as a potential “jailbird.” Forson deemed these comments prejudicial and a threat to democracy.

Forson reiterated that Ghanaians were dissatisfied with the current government and expressed their intention to vote out the NPP in the 2024 elections. He concluded with a proverbial message, stating that “a word to the wise is in the Assin North.”

Additionally, Forson announced that the Minority would provide full support to Gyakye Quayson by accompanying him to court whenever necessary, starting from July 4, 2023.
