A wedding bus crash in an Australian wine region has left at least 10 people dead and 25 others hospitalized.

The accident occurred when their bus overturned near the town of Greta on Sunday night in Hunter Valley, as the travelers were returning from a wedding at a winery.

Ten counts of reckless driving that caused death have been brought against the 58-year-old bus driver by the police.

They claimed that the process of identifying the deceased was still ongoing.

However, it wasn’t reported that the newlyweds were on the bus.

The crash site is “still an active crime scene,” according to police commissioner Karen Webb.

“We’ve got forensics officers processing the crime scene, we’ve got crash investigation unit officers, we’ve got rescue officers [on scene],”she continued.

According to the police, there had been a lot of fog in the area when the accident happened around 23:30 local time [13:30 GMT].

During the turn at the roundabout off the highway, the bus had rolled over. According to authorities, the car has now been pulled upright.

The wedding guests were traveling to Singleton, according to Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracy Chapman of the NSW Police,  “presumably for their accommodation”.

She continued by saying that two survivors were airlifted from the collision. At least one of them is still in critical condition, according to local media.

Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, said it is “so cruel, so sad, and so unfair” for a “joyous day in a beautiful place like that to end with such terrible loss of life.”

At a press conference in Canberra, he stated that “people hire a bus for weddings in order to keep their guests safe, and that just adds to the unimaginable nature of this tragedy.”

The Hunter Valley in New South Wales is well-known for its vineyards and native bushland, making it a popular destination for group outings or celebrations as well as for wine enthusiasts.

Prior to hearing about the accident, a wedding guest claimed that the day had been a “fairy tale.”

Police stated that they are still trying to locate and speak with the crash victims’ relatives.
