GRIDCO Complains Of Illegal Mining Activities Affecting Power Transmission

The Ghana Grid Company, GRIDCO says, the activities of illegal miners are affecting power transmission infrastructure in some parts of the country.

GRIDCO says, the illegal miners also known as galamseyers either dig around the base of the transmission towers or steal the steel beams used to build the transformers for their illegal mining activities.

He bemoaned the financial consequences the practices have on the company as well as on local businesses.

Chief Executive of GRIDCO Ebenezer Essienyi said this when he updated the nation on the state of Ghana Grid in Accra.

In order to prevent any kind of electrocution, he warned encroachers and illegal miners in this notice to stop interacting with their transmission wires.

He mentioned that his outfit had been approved to reconstruct the major transmission lines in the country to improve voltages.
