Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the head of the Public Relations unit at the Ghana Education Service (GES), has emphasized that eleven Senior High School (SHS) heads, who have been interdicted for allegedly selling unapproved items and charging unauthorized fees, will face thorough investigation as they purportedly ignored directives.

The GES initiated investigations into the conduct of these headteachers, accusing them of charging students unapproved fees for various items such as house dues, books, calculators, admission processes, slip and file printing, and hymn books.

In an interview, Cassandra Twum Ampofo stated that the interdicted heads, alongside others, were extensively briefed on the directives, both in physical engagements and via Zoom meetings. The interdictions are deemed necessary to allow the GES to delve deeper into the allegations against these headteachers who, according to Ampofo, operated against administrative rules.

Ampofo dismissed claims that the interdicted heads received their letters through social media, asserting that the GES has copies of specific letters signed by regional directors and addressed to the respective heads.

She expressed concern that some of the interdicted heads allegedly obstructed students who couldn’t afford unauthorized items from completing the admission process.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Ampofo mentioned that the heads will receive a fair hearing before the regional directors. She assured that the process aims to be transparent, with outcomes and recommendations made public.

The GES PRO also stressed the possibility of reinstating the interdicted heads based on the recommendations provided by the regional directors. The affected headteachers are from schools in the Greater Accra Region, Eastern Region, Ashanti Region, and Bono Region.
