W/R: Court refuses bail application to 15 persons connected to Esiama District headquarters

The Takoradi Circuit Court ‘B’ presided over by Her Honour Abigail Animah has refused bail for 15 persons linked to the April 1 besieging of the Esiama District Police Headquarters.

This follows the shooting to death of a resident in the Telekubukazo during the prosecution of some illegal miners arrested from the Adamus Resources Concession at Nkroful.

Her Honour Abigail refused bail for the 15 persons and adjourned the case to May 11 as the Police Prosecutor is yet to give disclosure to the court and the defence counsel.

Counsel for the accused persons, Philip Fifi Buckman said there are over 25 people arrested but some have not been presented to the court. He explained that the applications for the bail was rejected because the court wants to know what is in the disclosure of the accused.

“About 25 to 30 people have been arrested and brought before the court. Some have not been presented to the court, it means their charges have not been read to them but some have been done it… We repeated our application for bail today but the same has been refused,’” he said.

According to him, the counsel is considering falling on other avenues of the law to get bail for the accused persons.

He touted that the court requested that Prosecution discloses their document to determine whether accused persons will be granted bail.
