Yusif Chibsah: PFAG Head Claims Some Division One League Players Don’t Receive Salaries

Former King Faisal Babies and Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah who’s currently working as Head of Player Relations at Professional Football Association of Ghana claims there are some players playing in the Division One League without salaries.
The 33-year-old who is tasked by the organisation to ensure Player Relations and welfare has been on a campaign for clubs to set minimum wage bill for footballers playing in the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League.
Then Minister for Employment and Labour Relations(In 2016), on the ticket of the then ruling party, National Democratic Congress(NDC) – Hon. Haruna Iddrisu affirmed an increase of the minimum wage to an average Ghana worker to be GHC 7.00 – GHC 8.00.

Which means a regarded worker (Professional Footballer) must at least earn GHC 210.00 or GHC 240.00.
In an exclusive interview with Beach FM’s Hans Mensah Andoh on Friday Night Football, Yusif Chibsah who jumped from colts football to the Premier League claimed there are players in the second competition on Ghana’s football pyramid taking nothing home at the end of every month.
“Some Division One League Players don’t even have salaries, they sacrifice and some play for free. It’s unfortunate that I cannot mention names, but that’s a fact,” Yusif Chibsah said.
The former Ghana Premier League winner also added that there should be an average wage of GHC 1,000.00 for players playing in the Ghana Premier League. Which he thinks will be enough to maintain the best players in our league rather than losing them to other African countries.
“I think if we set a minimum wage of GHC 1,000.00, this is reasonable, Premier League clubs should be able to afford GHC 1,000.00 as salaries for each player,” he noted.
Chibsah said clubs that are paying better in the Ghana Premier League are Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ashantigold and Accra Hearts of Oak: “For Asante Kotoko, Ashantigold SC and Hearts of Oak, players are being paid averagely GHC 1,000.00 and GHC 1,500 which is good. It comes back to my question, how many clubs can afford that? Other players for the 3 clubs take GHC 2,000 and some even to the tune of GHC 3,000.00,” Yusif Chibsah added
